Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.Helen Keller
The biggest news comes from the security world that The official Twitter account of Apple, Musk, Gates and many others were hijacked on wednesday(15th July) by scammers trying to dupe people sending cryptocurrency bitcoin in a massive hack.
High profile persons, Billionaires Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are among many prominent US figures targeted by Scammers on Twitter in an apparent Bitcoin scam
“Tough day for us at Twitter. We all feel terrible this happened,” twitter CEO Jack Dorsey late on Wednesday twited. Jack Dorsey said, “We’re diagnosing and will share everything we can when we have a more complete understanding of exactly what happened”.
“This appears to be the worst hack of a major social media platform yet.” said by Dmitri Alperovitch the cofounder of cyber-security company CrowdStrike.
Apple, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Joe Biden were among the accounts compromised in a broadly targeted hack that remained mysterious hours after taking place. Those accounts and many others posted a message promoting the address of a bitcoin wallet with the claim that the amount of any payments made to the address would be doubled and sent back — a known cryptocurrency scam technique. The fake tweets offered to send $2,000 for every $1,000 sent to a bitcoin address.
As well as rapper Kanye West, his wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, former US President Obama, Mr Biden, who is the current Democratic presidential candidate, and media billionaire Mike Bloomberg, major companies Uber and Apple were also targeted.
Before the scope of the incident became clear, the hack appeared to focus on cryptocurrency-focused accounts. In an initial wave of scam posts, bitcoin, ripple, coindesk, coinbase and binance were hacked with the same message: “We have partnered with CryptoForHealth and are giving back 5000 BTC to the community,” followed by a link to a website.
The cause of the breach was not immediately clear, but the scale and the scope of the problem suggested that it was not limited to a single account or service. Twitter has continued to limit some functionalities including resetting your password and some other account functionalities while they investigate the problem.
“It is highly likely that the attackers were able to hack into the back end or service layer of the Twitter application,” said Michael Borohovski, director of software engineering at security company Synopsys.
According to some experts, hackers had access to internal infrastructure of twitter. And it would be more serious if they had the same. It causes important data risk to all accounts information. Blockchain record(Publicly available) shows that that apparent hackers have already received more than $100,000 worth of bitcoins.
